New Production Manager Has Quality Background

Working Toward ISO 9001

  • Sam Sematis Will Help Lead ISO 9000 efforts

Equilibar is pleased to announce that Sam Sematis has been named Production Manager. He brings a strong background in quality to the position and has already been instrumental in helping to form Equilibar’s plans for strategic growth.

Sam joined Equilibar as Quality Technician in 2014 after working in a variety of industries and owning his own business. He attended the University of North Carolina at Asheville and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is also a skilled artisan and has experience as a book conservator and a glass sculptor.

“Both glass blowing and book conservation involve a great attention to detail as well as a solid knowledge of science,” Sam said. “For example, the composition of paper in a book determines exactly what solutions can be used in its conservation. At Equilibar, the materials are different but the focus on details is the same.”

As Production Manager, Sam is in charge of purchasing, scheduling, maintaining inventory, and leading the production team.

“Our team is awesome,” he said. “It’s a strong crew and we work well together. We all bring different strengths and talents to the floor. Everyone is happy to be here.”

Sam enjoys both the hands-on aspects of his job as well as the leadership aspects. “My very favorite part of the job is solving problems,” he added. “I find it most rewarding. Finding the best solution gives me a sense of accomplishment.”

Looking ahead, Sam is actively involved in implementing the ISO 9001 quality program at Equilibar. “I’m looking forward to continuing to see the company grow. I believe the programs we’re putting in place will help us forecast needs more efficiently and work with vendors to cut down lead times. The industry is constantly changing and it’s exciting to watch Equilibar continue on an upward path.”
